Get Started. Sometimes even making the first call to inquire about adoption is difficult. Welcome to the emotional rollercoaster called adoption! Choose an agency that you feel comfortable with. AAU staff have personally LIVED the adoption experience and can walk you through it with compassion and empathy. AAU will provide up-front honest answers to your questions. Call anytime to personally visit with our staff.
Application, homestudy and training. The paperwork and approval process may seem overwhelming but we are here to guide you every step of the way. The homestudy is the process that allows us to explore your motivation to adopt as well as to prepare you to be adoptive parents. Our training program enables you to work at your own pace in your own home to meet required training obligations while gaining valuable information for your adoptive parenting journey.
MATCH! Your next step will be one that will require patience, open-mindedness, and faith. You will be presented situations in which the birthmother has made an adoption plan. You will then decide if you wish to be considered by that mom. This process will continue until a mom has chosen you.
Placement. Congratulations new parents! The day has come to take your child home and begin your lives together.
Post-placement. AAU Adoptions will conduct post placement supervision as required by state laws. These reports will be submitted to necessary agencies and to court for finalization.
