YOUR PLAN-YOUR WAY:
This is one of the most difficult decisions you will ever make. We want to help you through it by helping you personalize your plan. You make the decisions, and we help you carry them out.

EXCELLENT FAMILIES FOR YOUR BABY:
You choose the family. Baby can go home from the hospital with the family of your choice.

PRIVATE/CONFIDENTIAL COUNSELING:
We will help you cope with the emotions of dealing with your pregnancy as well as placing your child for adoption. Our counselor is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can meet face to face, talk or text on the phone, and get all the support you need. Your counselor will plan to be with you at the hospital when you deliver and will see you through the entire experience. She will stay in touch with you as long as you want. Many birthmoms feel a strong connection to their counselor and choose to stay in touch, they become close friends, sometimes like family.

Counseling doesn’t stop just because baby is born. Adoption related counseling is available to you through AAU Adoptions FOREVER! We will help you work through the emotional process even after delivery; next week, next month or next year!

If you have an open adoption, AAU will assist you with ongoing contact. If you don’t have an open adoption but would like updates in the future, we will request information from the adoptive family for you. We will also assist with any reunification process when your child is an adult.

FINANCIAL & MEDICAL ASSISTANCE:
We will assist you with finding a doctor if you do not have one. We will also help you apply for Medicaid when possible or assist you with your personal health insurance.

Each state has different laws about what adoptive parents can assist a birthmother with financially. These laws are very strict to protect you from being coerced into placing your child for adoption. Your counselor will help you determine what is and is not allowable as well as helping you set up a personal budget that works for you. Expenses that adoptive families generally are allowed to help with include pregnancy related and living expenses. When financial assistance is given, it is to help you take good care of yourself.
